What’s the difference between fax, vFax, and mFax?

This quick guide explains the difference between a standard fax, vFax, and mFax in Pilot Voice and in the industry in general.

Telecom has come along way. With virtual and mobile options in the mix, the traditional fax has gotten some upgrades too. This quick guide explains the difference between a standard fax, vFax, and mFax in Pilot Voice and in the industry in general.

Fax: A phone-based platform. Faxes are sent to a fax number from a machine, usually the large and clunky kind.

vFax: Virtual (cloud-based) faxing. Faxes use the internet rather than a standard telephone connection and fax machine. vFax makes it easy to send faxes from anywhere with an internet connection, and it’s possible to receive faxes to an online inbox (versus printing from a fax machine).

There are a few other benefits too:

    • vFax is more environment-friendly than printed paper (and they can be electronically signed to reduce other printed copies).

    • vFax is more secure and compliant with security standards in many industries.

    • vFax is faster to send, especially to multiple people at once.

mFax: Email-based faxing. Faxes are securely and reliably sent via email from any location with an internet connection.

With Pilot Voice, you can continue using your existing fax machine (via a Fax Bridge) or move to vFax with mFax capabilities. Want to learn more? Get in touch!
